dc.description.abstract | Sensorcaching is an Open-Source hardware and software project designed with several goals in mind. It allows for long-term environmental monitoring with low cost and low power-usage hardware. It encourages citizens to take an active role in the health of their community by providing the means to record and explore changes in their environment. And it provides opportunities for education about the necessity and techniques of studying our planet. Sensorcaching is a 3-part project, consisting of a hardware sensor, a cross-platform mobile application, and a web platform for data aggregation. Its evolution has been driven by the desire to allow for long-term environmental monitoring by laypeople without significant capital expenditures or onerous technical burdens. | |
