Abstract
Traditionally, room acoustic data is recorded via some combination of omnidirectional and figure-of-eight microphones. However, a rigid sphere microphone array can be used to develop a more detailed analysis of a room or sound field. Two of the additional possibilities opened by the use of a spherical ambisonics system include the use of spherical beamforming, as well as the use of higher order ambisonics decoding schemes. This thesis highlights the theory behind the beaforming and decoding processes, as well as design and construction of a rigid sphere microphone array and corresponding preamplifier. The array and amplifier are then used to record data to allow for validation of the decoding and beamforming processes.;
