Abstract
This thesis represents the results of tests on several 1-1/8" x 1/8" x 14-5/8" cold rolled steel specimens in both an "as rolled" and fully annealed condition undergoing reversed bending stresses at the rate of 120 cycles per second. The tests showed that the core losses of the "as rolled" specimens, initially stressed by the rolling process, increased progressively in comparison with the original losses as the specimen was subjected to vibratory overstressing. Annealed specimens of the same steel, initially stress free, showed a marked decrease in the core losses when tested under the same conditions. Observations made during the tests, which may form the basis of further investigations, as well as problems and suggestions for the continuation of this work are discussed. Because the analysis of core losses is subjeot to many varying factors, several of which oan be controlled or met only by experience, an outline of a testing procedure for future work is also included.
