Abstract
Inventory and Warehouse Management have traditionally been viewed as separate problems. The interaction of these two management philosophies is underscored by this modelling effort. The optimality of the Cube-per-Order Index for dual command cycles is established; thereby laying the theoretical foundation for the solution of dual address problems using search heuristics. The computational intractability of the problem is characterized by a highly dimensional, non-convex, and nonlinear objective function. A computer model is built and three search heuristics have been implemented. The fundamental importance of an integrated model such as this in the context of Computer Integratred Manufacturing Systems is realized.;
