    Abstract
    The work described analyzes the transient response of a static excitation system for large steam turbine-generators. The transient performance characteristics of the excitation system are important because they relate to: 1. Speed of response of the excitation system and magnitude of the generator field transient forcing which is one of the important aspects of a good excitation system. 2. Maximum possible transient overvoltages, affecting the insulation design of all excitation system components. These points are investigated for a particular case of transient operation of the excitation system. Test results from an actual system are reported and comparison with expected values is indicated.;
