This thesis has, as its object the design of a 15 ton Ludlum direct arc electric furnace and its electrIcal equipment. The furnace is to be used to melt and refine impure scrap iron in the production of steel. Emphasis is placed on reliable, efficient, and satisfactory operations, rather than on law first cost which causes partial sacrifice of these qualities.
