Abstract
The optimized performance of a complete system depends on the efficiency of its building blocks. The presented work, therefore, paves the way towards cost efficient implementation of a high speed optical receiver front end by optimizing the performance of its individual circuit blocks such as the transimpedance amplifier (TIA), adaptive equalizer and automatic gain control (AGC) circuitry. The concepts introduced can be utilized in power aware design of integrated optical receivers for emerging applications including VLC lighting fixtures, short-range optical communication links and high-speed wireless access networks.
