Abstract
Mass transport rate studies were performed for the ZrSe₂-iodine, ZrSe₂-iodine and ZrSe₂-ZrI₄ systems. The mass fluxes and morphologies of the transported crystals were observed as a function of transport agent pressure. Based on thermochemical considerations, the most likely chemical vapor transport reaction for the ZrS₂-iodine system is ZrSe₂(S) + 2I₂ = ZrI₄(g) + S₂(g). Chemical etching studies of ZrS₂ crystals transported with iodine revealed that crystal perfection decreases with increasing pressure of the transport system.
