Abstract
This work has allowed us to propose a completely new mechanism of Na+ translocation. If the Na+ uptake and translocation pathways are characterized, they can then be linked to the conformational changes in the enzyme that are related to the redox state of various cofactors. Ultimately, this information can be used to define the coupling mechanism in Na+-NQR. By understanding how Na+-NQR carries out its function, we will gain insight into bacterial adaptation in different environments.
