Abstract
In this thesis, I propose a study to understand the underlying factors contributing to trust in different networks. I develop baseline methods that study trust prediction in three separate levels: pairwise relations at a local level, and reputation at the community and network level. The reputation information shows one's standing in their social network, while local trust relations are based on having local common trusted relations. I study these methods in depth and show when they reveal similar or different performance. I then show how different methods can be combined to obtain better prediction algorithms based on my study.
