Abstract
The fourth chapter of this dissertation deals with the diffusion of N in natural rhyolitic glass. Concentration profiles are obtained from in-diffusion experiments by nuclear reaction analysis. The data suggest that N diffuses too slowly in silicic glasses to be used as a dating technique for archeological materials, but slow enough for pumice vesicles to successfully trap the N composition of ancient atmospheres at the time of their eruption.
