Abstract
Tailings are a waste product that must be dealt with during any mining operation. Tailings are most commonly deposited into embankments in layers as the mining project progresses. The prospect of using the tailings as a building material is of interest as it provides a use for what is currently a waste material. This provides a solution to what can be done with the tailings resulting from a mining operation. In order to use the tailings as a building material, its properties must be understood. The dynamic properties of the tailings are critically important for seismic events and are required for design.
