Abstract
At last, a novel continuum-particle coupling example that uses an external particle method code is presented as a demonstration of the extensibility of OpenIFEM. In this example we show that OpenIFEM is capable of coupling two very different numerical schemes: the fluid solver uses finite element method and the solid solver uses particle method. A step-by-step procedure of how to adapt existing code is presented. The results are examined and justified through 3D numerical experiments. This application also serves as an example for potential users who are willing to couple their existing code into OpenIFEM.
